Our firm was founded in 1983 as a continuation of the legal practice of Dan Basson, who practiced in Paarl for many years. Based in the heart of the Boland Winelands, our attorneys practice in various fields of the law and we thrive to be specialists in our respective fields of practice.

BA LLB DIP TAX PRAC
He grew up in Wynberg in the Cape and studied at the University of Stellenbosch where he obtained his BA degree in 1975 and his LLB degree in 1977. He joined the Department of Justice as a State Prosecutor at the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court in 1978, from where he was transferred to the office of the State Attorney in Johannesburg to start his attorney’s articles. He was admitted as an Attorney in 1982 and as a Conveyancer and Notary in 1993. He also obtained a Diploma in Tax Practice. He specialises in conveyancing and commercial transactions and liquor licence applications.

He grew up in Johannesburg and studied at the North West University (Potchefstroom Campus), where he obtained the degrees B Iuris in 1974 and LLB in 1976. After doing his compulsory Defence Force service where he excelled to the rank of Captain in the legal department, he joined the Department of Justice as a Prosecutor in 1979 and qualified as an Attorney in 1981. He worked as a Magistrate and High Court Litigant until joining Stephanus Steyn as a partner in Paarl. Being in a diversified country practice, his day-to- day work varies to include the litigation of the practice, motor vehicle accident claims (damages and injuries), debt collecting, estates, divorces, immigration matters and commercial work including drafting of contracts, formation of companies and trusts

BCOMM LLB Business Rescue Practitioner
Wessel Symington is a dedicated legal professional with a passion for justice and a strong commitment to serving his clients and community. He completed both his BComm and LLB degrees at Stellenbosch University, where he developed a solid foundation in commercial and legal studies.
Wessel’s expertise extends beyond traditional legal practice. He is a registered Debt Counsellor and Business Rescue Practitioner, equipping him to offer specialized assistance to individuals and businesses facing financial distress. His practical experience in debt restructuring and business recovery enables him to guide clients through complex financial challenges with care and insight.
In addition to his legal and financial qualifications, Wessel also serves as a Commissioner in the Small Claims Court, where he plays an active role in ensuring accessible and fair justice for all. His service reflects a deep-seated belief in the value of community empowerment and equitable legal processes.
Wessel is actively involved in several nonprofit initiatives. He has contributed to the work of the South African Hunters and Game Conservation Association (SAHGCA) and previously served as a trustee of the Little Fighter Cancer Trust, supporting children and families affected by cancer. His involvement in community-focused organizations reflects his dedication to making a meaningful difference beyond the courtroom.
